Local Lancaster County volunteers from Ukraine War Refugee Aid Fund are at the Poland border assisting with refugee placement efforts. Still seeing extremely long lines at the border, refugees lined up with just what they could carry.
Krakow train station is full of displaced refugees, most are just in groups, sleeping on the ground with their kids. Scared, confused, don’t know where to go as many are women, alone with their kids having left their fathers behind defending the country… Our volunteers are finding out that it’s hard for them to trust any men that offer to help.
Having our volunteers on the ground that speak the native Ukrainian language gains trust and allows us to work with established connections and get the refugees placed and connected with places to stay. One of those is Andrey, a former Ukrainian refugee that has volunteered full time to use his van and transport for us. He has been able to place hundreds of refugees, all he has asked from us was to cover his expenses which the fund is happily doing. Keep our driver in prayers as he is nonstop running routes with refugees from both Poland border and Krakow train station.
